  1. I currently has a Verizon DSL modem that served as the wireless HUB for the house. It has many 100 based T connection. I intend to add a HD tower to it as video file server.

But I am worried about the many transmitters on "CHANNEL 6" when I scan the network. Because I would like to get a route that don't have to compete with other people. It kind of looks like 6 is the default wireless modem channel. is this only happened at my area, or this is a common issues ?

Verizon manual warn me not to change the channel setting.

If I change it to another channel, is the sky going to fall on me ?

I wouldn't say the sky will fall but you may lose internet connectivity or perhaps lose/limit your PPPoE support and only have a solitary computer on your network with internet access.

There should be no problems at all as long as all wireless adapters on all PCs sharing wireless connection are changed to exact same settings as router. It won't hurt to try it, and just switch back to original defaults if unresolvable problems do arise.

  4. I have many occasions of drop station. So I finally switch the wireless modem to channel 5, and turn WEP security to 128 bits, since then I have not drop the wireless comm yet. Of course, I am watching the other 10 people still banging on channel 6. Hmm, maybe is 666.

  5. Switch to either channel 1 or 11. The channels overlap, so if you're on 5, more than half of your signal is still overlapping everyone else on 6. 1, 6, and 11 are the three channels that don't overlap one another.

  6. Do you have the center frequncies and the passband for all these channels ? can you post them ?

Channel 11, currently has a netgear type B ( they are still out there ? ).
