Don't know if DTS can be contained in mpg, but why would you want an mpg with DTS audio?

  3. Muxman (join and rename the final vob files), mplex (can be found in GfD or dvdauthorgui)

Wouldn't Muxman/GfD create VOBs? (At least to me, there's a huge difference between authoring a DVD and multiplexing an mpg)

  5. Yes, muxman will always create vobs. That's why I mentioned: join and rename the final vob files (to mpg).
GfD itself would also create vobs as the final output. But you can use it as a GUI for mplex (which creates the mpg file). The vob files are created by dvdauthor as the final step from the already multiplexed mpg file. You can of cause also use mplex from the commandline...

Be aware that if you do this, you do not get an mpeg file. You get a renamed VOB file. It may play, but it may not always react in the way you expect. A VOB file is not just an mpeg file with a different extension.

  7. OK, there you are right. But I've never seen any player who is 'disturbed' by the included navigation info. Actually mpg is just a container for streams. The specifications for this container are much 'broader' than for vob.
(mpeg may include several video streams - vob only one, mpeg may have up to 32 audio streams - vob up to 8...)
