Hey, Guys,
Just bought a Panasonic VDR-D100 camcorder from Costco.
Same experience with another Panasonic DVD recorder with DVD-RAM ( had to return it)
Cannot read the 3” DVD-RAM on my PC.
Using WinXP SP2
And universal NEC dual layer 16X DVD +/- R/RW drive.
Did some research on the NET – they say the WinXP OS should support by default DVD-RAM
Tried to install the Win2000 DVD-RAM driver, but it says – wrong OS.
Do I need a special driver for it?
If so - where from?
Thanks.

I agree with Baldrick... Download Imgburn and use the Capabilities function under Tools>Drive and see if your Burner will do a DVD-RAM..It willshow you what types of DVD/CD media that your Burner can read/write...Some, but not many burners out there do them..Some LG Brand Burners have this capability..

You don't need drivers for XP SP2 in order to use DVD-RAM, I'd say the drive does not support the media instead.
I have a Pioneer 110 and an NEC 4551 that both support DVD-RAM, but many of their sister drives (eg the Pioneer 110D) do NOT support DVD-RAM. The same goes for reading discs in DVD-ROM drives - the RAM variant is not widely used in the consumer domain. -
Yep, i run two toshiba dvd-roms that are ram compatible and i bought them both as bare drives and never had to install anything for them to read ram disc's even on XP with no service packs.
The OP needs to list exactly what drive he is trying to read the ram disc's in. -
Does NEC sell a DVD Ram compatible drive in the US at this time? Answering that should solve this LA posters issue.

I seem to remember my original windows XP(no service pack) CD showing a splash screen during install saying that windows XP now supports DVD-RAM.
Anyone else see or remember that? -
Well, i know XP Pro alone does, and i have never installed a service pack.
But i pretty much don't read most of the splash screens during instalations :P -
I used XP without any service packs with a RAM drive without having to install drivers.

XP Pro supports DVD-RAM natively. The listing on the splash screen ROF mentions is for DVD-RAM writing. If I remember correctly as long as the drive can read a DVD-RAM disk, Windows pretty much treats it as a regular DVD in terms of reading.
