I have just started capturing DV from my Sony Handcam thru a Firewire PCI card using MS Movie Maker on Win XP Pro SP2 and all fixes.
PC is a Dell 8300 2.60 GH 768MB Ram and lots of internal and external HD space.
While capturing about 9 hours on 9 tapes (DV Firewire to USB HD) I have had 2 Blue screen errors. This is the first BSOD's that I have ever had on this PC in 2 years.
A Google showed a couple of hits with the basic answer to stop as many programs as possible and keep hands off the PC during capture.
The BSOD's show no particular driver in error. I have check for driver updates but there are none.
Any suggestions on this problem?
Thanks

First thing I would try is to use WinDV for the transfers. It has less overhead than WMM. I would think Windows would give you some kind of error text with a BSOD, however cryptic it might be?
Is there anything different with the tapes that are associated with the BSOD or is it just random with any tape?
You could monitor the Task Manager during the transfer to see what is running and how much memory is being used. You could also use MSconfig in the 'Run...' window to kill processes that aren't needed if you have an idea the problem might be there. Can't think of anything else at present.
