So almost every day the question gets asked "'I downloaded a movie/tv show in .avi (divx/xvid/ect) and I want to burn it on a DVD..."

I know that ffmpeg is probably the most usefull and powerful app out there to accomplish this task, but are there any or more user-friendly apps avaliable?

I have heard of MPEG2 WORKS, but have not actually tried it.

Does anyone know of any newer apps that require less customization just to get downloaded .avi's converted to a format convenient for DVD authoring (ie mpeg)?

    Thanks in advance.

(Also, I really think that there should be a couple more stickies for the noobs to help point them in the right direction.. everyone seems to be getting on here asking how to convert to dvd from avi, and also how to use ffmpeg. I know there is a stickie, but another more creatively named one might help also)

  2. Toast has one step AVI to DVD (and most AVIs are DivX files in disguise... so it also has one step DivX to DVD.

I was under the impression that the Toast 7 app created very bad quality conversions? Can anyone confirm this?

  5. there are loads of tutorials on the MPEG2 WORKS forums that cover just about every aspect of file conversion...the problem is that avi's come in so many flavors and a 1 step process isn't alway possible...
