    Hey there,

Out of nowhere my streaming video stopped working. This applies to all websites I have visited.

I re-installed Macromedia Falsh and Shockwave, still nothing.

Can anyone suggest what might be causing this, as it doesn't allow me to use the "TV on my PC" function my ISP provides. I called the techs on their end and after much looking around on my PC and on their end, they surmised the problem was with my PC. The fact that NO websites' streaming media will play seems to confirm this.

    Help! please!

    my specs are:
    WIndows XP sp2
    P4 2.8
    Ram: 2 x 256 MB
    VIdeo: GeForce 5500 256 MB

  2. It has nothing to do with PC specs. First of all which streaming video you are trying to play? If it is RM then do you have latest realplayer installed on your pc? Do you have the latest version of Windows Media Player installed? Look if your firewall is blocking some ports which are needed for online streaming? Are you using Norton Personal Firewall? (In my 3 yrs experience it can also cause this problem? Does your ISP allows online streaming?
Which internet connection you are using (Modem, ISDN, DSL, LAN)?
    Plz be more specific.

I have the latest RealPlayer and Windows Media Palyer installed. I'm not using Norton personal Firewall. I'm using Zone Alarm.

My ADSL connection is provided by ALiant, which does support streaming video and even offers the "Tv on my PC" service I mentioned above.

I can still view Flash files, but neither RP or WMP will work (will still play video from CD or that I have DL'ed on my PC)

As per Port blocking, I'm not sure how to check this. It seems odd that it would all of a sudden start blocking ports that have been used for the past year or so with this firewall... anything is possible though.

All suggestions welcome! I'm at my wit's end!!!!

  4. Why did you use Flash Video (flv).

Traditionally, to present video on the Web, one would have to
1.) prepare a single video a number of times in order to please a wide audience, and
2.) go to great lengths to explain how to play the video. With Flash Video, your video just plays, directly from your Web page.
With the Flash Video Format (FLV), your video reaches the widest audience possible, because everyone visiting your site can play it--without plug-ins, pop-up media players or complex explanations.

    Huh?

As far as I can tell, the OP is looking to get streaming video playing properly again on his system, not be a content provider.

(And besides, if I remember correctly, Flash support is a bit more dodgy on platforms other than Windows (such as Linux and Macs).)
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
