I have an ati all in wonder x 800 xl pcie 256 mb card. I wanted to capture my old vdieo tapes from a vcr and off my old 80mm cam. My problem is that when i capture with studio 9 it starts off to capture fine but maybe about 20 seconds in i get interferance like a whitish bar that flickers on the top of the screen when capturing from vcr and 80mm. I dont think it is the flim because when not viewed on the computer ther are no problems. I am using the defalt settings in studio 9 and i am connecting using composite white, yellow and red for audio and video. I wanted to know if anyone knows what might be the problem or any one has an suggestion. I have emailed ati but no help from them.

You might want to take a look at the following website:

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/

This is a site that has a lot of information about how-to-capture and the person behind the site is a big fan of ATI AIW capture cards so there is a lot of info specifically on ATI AIW capture cards and how to use them.

My understanding is that you are best to use the ATI MMC software for capture purposes especially when you capture to MPEG formats. Also the MMC software is known to be "buggy" and the newest version of MMC is not always the best version to use. Apparently part of getting an ATI AIW to work well revolves around getting a proper install combination of driver and MMC software. Unfortunately this can be a bit of a trick.

    Hi Blackknight23,

    Welcome to the forums.

How "thick" is this whitish bar that flickers at the top? I'm guessing it's only a few scan lines in height? As opposed to huge and very obvious.

If that's the case, I believe that this is normal. If you're aiming to encode the captures to get them on to DVD then proceed as normal as the flickering will be hidden by the overscan area - this is the black seal around the TV screen that holds it in place.

MMC also has a crop setting that will trim a few pixels from all 4 sides as you capture. You are most likely seeing the closed caption data at the top.

I had major problems when trying to capture my home video tapes with my ATI capture card .. I gave up and bought a firewire card ... Just slotted it in ... it captures everything perfectly first time....everytime

Lesson learnt don`t use ATI capture cards..........
