  1. I'm sure there are minor differences but does anybody have a preference? I've been using a trial version of Coffee Cup and it's not bad but I don't have any experience with other FTP software.

In the past I've used CoreFTP, AceFTP, SmartFTP & WS_FTP - all are OK but I'm leaning towards CoreFTP as the best I've used so far.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. Jim, Why would you rank it better? What more does it do than just transfer files? I'm new at this.

Just ...... easier to use than the rest in my experience. Most of the settings "out of the box" are good to go with the websites I maintain also. Essentially all you really need an FTP client for is to transfer the files, yet some FTP softwares seem to enjoy making this a lot more difficult task than it should be IMHO.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Filezilla is a nice, free, and easy to use FTP Client. I use it a lot.

CuteFTP and WSFTP for me. I tried most of the others named here, hated them.

    FlashFXP has its uses too.

  9. Help! Starting yesterday evening, I could not connect to my site via FTP. I thought there was a problem on their end, but I just loaded CuteFTP into the computer in the other room and it connects! My computer is hooked up to the master wireless router and the computer in the other room is slaving off of mine. I have my firewall disabled and everything configured correctly. What am I missing? P.S. Three other FTP programs aren't working either.

  13. In CuteFTP, is there any way to click or select a .wmv file in the remote folder and play it?

If so its just gonna download the entire file to a temp space play it then delete it. So you might as well download it.

How did you notice this and how would I find this out for my own files? I'm new at this so don't get too technical - I had to look up binary - lol! They're all .wmv files and HTML files.

  17. First of all, I use WS_FTP Pro for all my uploading.
Secondly, you said that you took your firewall down.I also had the same problem a month ago, and i also disable my firewall and i still was unable to connect to internet, called my ISP and they said that their network was running fine.Later i noticed that Norton Internet Security 2005 (Norton Personal Firewall) was blocking my traffic even it was turned down, uninstalled it and things started running fine again. Now i am running only Windows Firewall and etrust Antivirus, look if you are running Norton Personal Firewall (It have issues with some FTP tools also)

  18. im personally partial to smartftp myself, though i havent really tried any of the other ones to speak of........ and to sohaibrazzaq, i've never heard of etrust antivirus...if you gotta pay to use it though, i'd advise going with AVG instead...probably works just as efficiantly, if not slightly more, and you never gotta pay for it (make sure you get the free version though, not the professional version....poke at their website a bit and you can find a link to the free one, or just google AVG free......
