I am having some trouble. I have SAGE TV I record all my shows in mpeg1
I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to them master some of these into DVD (its the only program that will make mpeg1's to dvd without reencoding the video as well as the audio !
ANyway something is wrong with sage TV it records the shows fine but it fubar's the FILE Properties so programs THINK its 320x240 instead of what it really is 352x240 and the aspect ratio is odd (though the players I use ignore aspect ratio so thats not a problem)
anyway when I drop this file into DVD Author it balks and refuses to accept it because it thinks its 320x240 because of the bad file properties information SAGE TV put in and wont touch it.
HOW do I alter the file properties information to show 352 WITHOUT reencoding the file so that I can load it into DVD Author ?
Here is a sample file http://www.nerys.com/stuff/test.mpg its 12mb
Thanks !!

1) The non-free version of the Teco Bit Rate Viewer can do some stuff to change headers with demuxed video streams. It might be able to change it.
2) You might be able to demux it and remux it in TMPGenc, using VCD output and it might get the header right.
3) This would be really ugly, but a binary/hex editor might be able to fix this. The trick would be finding the right info to change.
4) One more thought - again using TMPGenc, open the file in Join/Edit and save it without any changes. That might re-write the header correctly.
There is a program, DVDPatcher, than can work with MPEG-2 streams, but it makes no claim to work with MPEG-1.
Have you thought about reporting this as a bug to Sage developers? Not too many people work with MPEG-1 these days, so they probably don't check that too much. -
In SageTV make sure you are capturing using VCD. This makes it standard VCD 352/240 with With 44100 freq audio. Tmpgenc DVD Author will re-encode the audio.
If You want to avoid rencoding the audio you have to make a profile in Sagetv to record mpeg1 with VCD quality and the audio 48000 see example below. SageTV is not messing up the header its the profile you are using to capture.
mmc/python2_encoding/MYVCD=videobitrate=1520000|width=352|height=240|au diobitrate=224|outputstreamtype=11|audiosampling=4 8000 -
I have already tried to eedit cut with and without changes no joy
also I am very familiar with video formats. this is a sage tv PROBLEM. normally the files it makes are just fine but more and more and more its making these goofy files and I dont know how to stop it from doing it.
Normally when it starts to do this I restart SAGE TV and its fine for a while but now more and more its making them with the fubar'd headers :-(
I just need to TRICK dvd author into accepting the file since IT IS in the proper format (at least I am pretty sure it is)
I want to avoid a demux if I can help it thats an AWFUL lot of files to demux :-(

I have already reported it to sage tv the fact that few use mpeg1 is probably why its apparently been ignored.
there is many NEW versions of sage tv since the version I have but I am extremely leary of upgrading since I have it running SOO stable and effeciently I am afraid of experiencing all the problems of stability I had initially by changing things.
I am going to try and backup the entire drive and see what happens when I upgrade.

all I did was tell it to make the width 352 and only change the header not the entire file.
it worked but now DVD author "percieves" this black bar ? on the right.
