    Here's another one:

People who post the the same answer about 50 times when it was used in the 2nd post.
"How do I rip a DVD?"
    "Use DVDDecrypter"
    "I use DVDDecrypter"
"There is a program called DVDDecrypter. Look in the Tools section"
    "It's DVDDecrypter for me"

Can't believe I forgot this one:

People who post to basically say no.

OP: "Does anyone know how to stream rip in DVDDecrypter?"
1st response: "Sorry. I've never used that program."

OP: "What's your favorite scene from 'The Matrix'?"
response: "I haven't seen that movie."

Hell, I don't even like the negative/moot response in polls. Most polls are to find info from a user base of some sort. Adding the "never tried it" seems pretty silly and counterproductive (though I know that in certain polls it's useful).

    POLL:
    What is your favorite cola?
    1. Coca-cola
    2. Pepsi
    3. Shasta
    4. Fanta
    5. I don't drink colas/soda.

    -----------------------------------------

Thread crappers (though I have been accused of this myself). More specifically:

OP: "ST: Enterprise Season Finale review"
1: "It was pretty good. Not enough Archer, but still above average."
2: "I give this a 6 out of 10. Too many dangling plotlines."
crapper: "YOU GUYS SUCK! STILL WATCHING CRAPPY TREKKIE SHOWS! LOL ROFL PWND!@@$#%@%$^#&"

Q: "Is there a program to convert real media to VCD?"
A: "Stop downloading shitty real media."
    or
"Use DVD-R (not +R). VCDs suck!"

@Doramius: Thank you for getting my point.

@Supreme: You only wish you were on my list of "booty call" regulars and your jealousy excuses much of your behaviour with me. :P

@Mackem: I think you selectively read my post. Read it again as I stand by it. And this time don't skip the part where I say "But I can't say you're totally unjustified either because I remember how bad things were back then".

And I put it to you again that you mispercieve where there is or is not an arguement going on. Your response to my post just confirms my point. I wasn't taking anyone's side.

Of your LONG ASS post, I will bother to only answer this:

It's not so they can have insults directed at them, it's so they don't go around with the expectation of being hand held by the knowledgable members of this board. Back then, most newbs responded with huge attitudes when told to read for themselves.

The only difference between how the boards were then and how they are now is that now instead of chiding them, regulars don't bother answering their posts at all. Ultimately I think that's more detrimental to the overall exchange of video information in the long run.

Or this post from yesterday (I'll paraphrase).

Original Post: "I'm having a problem playing DIVX with Windows Media Player 10. What could I do to play these files correctly." (you get the picture).

Answer post one: "Try VLC Media Player or Media Player Classic."

Original Poster Repsponse: "Nah. Any other advice."

Now that is just stupid. Someone offers advice, but instead of taking it, you look for more (which you won't take anyway.)

If you know everything, why post?

I get your point smearbrick1 and I guess it all boils down to how the thanks but no thanks is put across. I've seen the thread in question

my rants from before alsoincluded the fact that some cannot respond in the way all the guys did within that thread. Especially waheed as it was his response that got knocked back 8)

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1473950#1473950

juts because someone is ignorant or rude towards you doesn't mean you have to give it back. Some probably don't even realise what they are doing or don't even mean what is interpreted (don't we all ) but sometimes a gentle poke in the back soon sharpens them up rather that a stab in the eye

    smearbrick, that one's kinda tricky.

I think that waheed should have been as clear in his 1st post as he was in his 2nd. I don't mind an "innocent" thread crap, as long as you back it up.
    For instance:
Q: "How do I do [operation] in [software]?"
    instead of
A: "Why are you using [software] / [software] sucks!"
    try
A: "Try [alternate software]. [software] has been proven to have spyware/trojans/malware, so it bogs down your system. [alternate software] is free of all that and does a better job of [operation]."

I know the types of threads you are referring to.

"I'm having a problem with Windows"

Answer: "Switch to Linux. It's much more secure than Windows and it's free."

Or the questions where someone is using an already expensive piece of software:

"I'm having a problem with Vegas. I just spent my entire life's savings on this software and my kids will not be eating for weeks because of it. Can anyone help?"

Answer: "Try CCE, it's much faster than Vegas."

    You get the idea.

    More pet peeves:

    When someone says:

-Stop making noise, I can't see!
-Stop standing in front of me, I can't hear!
-Don't touch me, I'm trying to smell this....
-This tastes like goat piss! (like they really sat down and drank goat piss)

You'd be surprised. Sometimes the noise is so grating or annoying (like a migraine headache) that you have to shut your eyes
-Stop standing in front of me, I can't hear!
They could be blocking the sound waves from reaching their maximum volume. If they are really heavy, the person's fat could act like acoustic paneling.

-Don't touch me, I'm trying to smell this....
If they're clinging to you or pushing you, you may not be able to hold still and smell it.

-This tastes like goat piss! (like they really sat down and drank goat piss)
True. Could never understand that. "It smells like" something is understandable, though.
MX, that's kind of a subset of my "answer negatively" peeve.

This was a joke by the way.

I kind of have a similar thing...

Only I set my alarm way earlier than I need. After it goes off, I hit the snooze button until my regular wake time.

Just set your alarm earlier. What's so hard about setting the clock earlier as you still get the same few minutes until the real time you need to get up.

I bet you're the same people that think having 3 paychecks in a month means you're getting extra money because insurance is only taken out of 2 of them.

Average it out over the year. it's the same damn amount. nothing extra about it.

BTW - that's another pet peeve.

People who post online links to flash programs that start really quiet and look small and work friendly, but end up getting loud, large and may show some pornographic picture.

I really hate skeptics. There is absolutely nothing wrong with reserving comment on a subject, but to be outright skeptical is just narrow-minded. Everytime some yahoo hypothesises about this idea or that idea, some skeptic comes along and tries to shit all over the hypothesis before the idea is even tested.

Remember those prehistoric fish that skeptics were saying were extinct, yet fisherman in Africa (or someplace) kept saying they were catching them. Still, without research, the skeptics still preached on about how they were absolutely sure of the extinction of this fish. Then, after a scientific group went to the area to study the claims, they found that the fish was not extinct. I love when shit like that happens.

I think it is totally great when someone comes along and proves something that flies in the face of scientific dogma.

    Narrow-minded ********.

I find that skepticism is almost always fully warranted. It's also the basis of the U.S. legal system.

How many times has someone said "I can't rip this [barely protected] DVD. There must be some new copy protection.", and the reply (or seven) was "You're an idiot. I ripped that with [random ripper]. Clean the disc." I wouldn't fault those guys for being skeptical.
