hi ppl, as per the topic, do VOB compressors also compress DD & DTS tracks on dvds thereby degrading audio quality or do they exclusively compress video only while leaving DD/DTS tracks untouched?

  2. generally speaking, they just compress the video and leave the audio untouched, im not too familiar with dvd2one, but i know dvdshrink gives you the option to completely throw out audio tracks, too....basically so you can get away with compressing the video less.....but all in all, unless you SPECIFICALLY tell that program to touch the audio and/or subs, it wont...i'd assume it's probably the same thing here....

I'm fairly certain that the more popular transcoders only touch the video.
    If in doubt, Google it.

In general the audio is left alone since there's nothing much worth compressing there. Audio is only a few hundred megs out of several gigabytes of data on the disc, there's not much gain to be had there for all the processing you need to do to get the gain.

With the exception of PCM (and possibly DTS), which can be over a gig per stream, of course ...
    If in doubt, Google it.
