Capture card: hardware encoder mpeg-2

Does you recommend any capture card that has hardware mpeg-2 encoder and pal-m/ntsc ?

The Hauppauge WinTV-PRV-250 is a good card as is the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350. Both are PCI capture cards that do hardware MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 capture. The difference is that the 350 model adds TV output which is fine tuned for MPEG output only.

Another good choice is the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 and the ADS Instant DVD 2.0 both of these are external USB 2.0 devices that do hardware MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 capture. The Hauppauge seems to have the same quality as the 250/350 PCI cards. The ADS Instant DVD 2.0 is in my opinion a tiny bit better in image quality but it has no RF tuner and the software that comes with it is not suited to setting up unattended recordings making it a poor choice for recording from TV whereas all the Hauppuage units excel at unattended TV recording set-up.

We looked at PAL-M a few months ago. Hauppauge isn't clear about PAL-M support in the PVR series but some of the western hemisphere ATI All-In-Wonder cards are said by ATI to support NTSC and PAL-M. The european models DO NOT support PAL-M.

I have a Hauppauge PVR 500 MCE NTSC version and it works on PAL-M (I`m brazilian too). I asked Hauppauge before buying it.
