Someone (who shall remained nameless) output some avi video using Vegas Video Editor into an mpeg2 file and authored it onto a DVD. Unfortunately, the video was output in progressive mode, so it can't be viewed on a TV screen.

My question is this: Is there any easy way to interlace the non-interlaced VOB files? Thanks for any help.

Play it with a DVD player.

edDV, you might have some good news for me!

OK, well here's the thing: as strange as it sounds I don't own an external DVD player, so I can't exactly test it out with my TV. Of course, the video looks great on my computer screen, because has been rendered in progressive mode, but how is it going to look on an external TV? Will the external DVD player automatically interlace the progressive video for me?

I looked around and couldn't find any information on that- all I know is that TV uses interlaced video and computers- progressive.

  4. Most newer standalone DVD players can play progressive encoded DVD's even the $30.00 K-Mart specials.

This is excellent news. I'm not even going to bother with the re-encoding then. Thanks for the help yet again.

Yes, any DVD player will play a 23.976 progressively encoded DVD to telecined 29.97 fps interlace out the composite, S-Video or Y,Pb,Pr (interlace mode). The extra fields are created in the player.

A progressive DVD player can also play out 58.94 fps progressive over Y,Pb,Pr by repeating frames in a 3:2 sequence. You need a progressive TV.
