Hey, I just got this drive in the mail today:
AMD K6-2 500
128MB PC-100 SDRAM
Primary master 60GB HD7200rpm
Secondary Master Delta 12x DVD-ROM
Secondard Slave 4gb maxtor 5400rpm (old HD)
have DMA checked on the Delta
But when I try smartripper the speed jumps from 0.9-1.3 to 3.2-3.4, back and forth and back and forth (maybe 1sec at each speed). I might need a new IDE cable as the one I'm using is pretty old and I 'heard' that the newer ones are better at DMA (is this true?)
Any ideas/help?

vejita-sama,
try the following:
- put the delta on its own IDE channel
- use an 80 pin ATA cable (an ATA-100 will do)
I've had problems in the past where if you turn on DMA for a secondary channel device it says it will take but doesn't (that's just my experience). -
Thanks, I'll try to get an 80pin IDE ATA-100 cable tomorrow and see if that helps. I've also got a fairly old MB, I'm ordering a new computer next week (T-bird 1.2GZ) w/ new MB which I also hope will help (I'm told the IDE and chipset drivers make a big difference). Thanks again for all the help, love this site
