I am trying to convert some avis to DVD, but my computer keeps freezing. I have tried convertxtodvd. I installed and opened program but as soon as I opened the preview window, my computer just freezes (no mouse movement nothing, just a frozen screen). Now it freezes as soon as I open the program. I have also tried AVI2DVD with similar results. On the menu tab when I click "capture images", the same problem occurs, complete freeze.

The only program that seems to work is nero vision, but the sound comes out real quiet, so I can't use that. Also, with AVI2DVD, the problem doesn't occur if I stay away from that "capture images" button.

    Here is what I'm running
    2g sempron
    pcchips motherboard
onboard 32M (I think) video card
    as well as onboard sound.

If anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this proble, I would very much appreciate the input. I have read several topics about computer freezing, but haven't found anything like what is going on here (although I am not ruling out the same causes like overheating, corrupt codecs etc.). In any case if there is a relevant thread I would very much like to see it.

    Thanks in advance for advice.

Can you convert any AVIs ?

Anything similar (ie. codecs used) in the AVIs you've tried so far ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Right-click on My Computer and select Manage from the menu. Expand the Event Viewer tree in the console that opens and look int he Application and the System logs around the time of the freeze. If necessary, force a freeze to make it easier to track. Look for error logs created by programs or other issues. Let us know if you find anything.

SO I guess the next step is to make sure the drivers for my video card are up to date.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep you posted.
