System will not detect any PS2 mouse.
    Keyboards fine.
Have tried 13 Ps2 mice but had no luck what so ever.
    What do i do?

    Cheers.

  2. Buy a USB mouse?

Is this a brand-new system that hasn't worked right out of the box? Or was it working, you upgraded something, and now it's dead?

Pretty simple, but make sure your mouse and keyboard aren't plugged into the wrong PS2 ports. Happens all the time.

If that doesn't work, then your mouse drivers are probably messed up. Check them in 'Control Panel'.

  4. Could be that the PS2 mouse support is disabled in bios at boot. I know my system motherboard has that option in bios.

It's possible it could just be a bad mouse port on the motherboard. It's not common, but it is possible. I assume you tried those 13 mice in working computers and they were fine?

PS2 mice also can fail to work after a pin gets broken off inside the port(typically number 4 pin). Sometimes the pin is stuck inside the port and thus prevents a good contact for the next mouse tried. There may also be excessive dust or debris preventing a good electrical contact between the pins and the port.

Another option is to check the BIOS for PS2 support.

  7. Did it EVER work?

    Did you mess with it?

Estimated solution dependent on answer to these questions, particularly the first.

How did you get your hands on that many mice?

Assuming it never worked, check BIOS as suggested. Highly unlikely a broken pin would allow inserting the next mouse. Broken port not all that uncommon, particularly if connector inserted by ungentle hands.

USB mouse a definite solution, easy, low cost, no other parts needed, better future compatibility.

They sell PS2 Ball Mice at our local dollar store.

  9. If I was paying for them, I would have stopped at 2 or 3. I cannot imagine trying 13 different mice if they each had a cost associated.

I was thinking an office or school environment, which would have a bearing on the rough insertion of the connector I referred to earlier.

Anybody ever have a problem with fuzzy mouse balls?

If so, the answer is YES, ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME!!! I work tech support for a university and not a week goes by where somebody or other doesn't call and say, "My mouse isn't working, can I have a new one?"

And of course we go take a look and dear Lord the grunge inside some of these mice! Rollers all gummed-up with what looks like tar, balls that were originally off-white or gray and are now a mottled shade of gross ... ...

We just bring along a bottle of Windex and a rag. Wash the mouse ball carefully (make sure your hands are warm! :P ), and scrape the grunge off the rollers with a paper clip. Q-tips and denatured alcohol also are quite effective at removing the worst caked-on gunk, if necessary.

The worst mice are a certain generation of MS wheel mice, they have a poor design/construction and over time the wheel gets jammed inside the bearing and the $#@# thing won't scroll anymore. We used to try and fix those but now they just go in the round file.

I don't even carry ball mice anymore. They aren't cost effective when I'm selling opticals for $5-$30. I happened to pick up a few new dollar store ball mice before the holidays simply because I never knew when I might need one(older OSs) that I could remove from the box and know it would track plug n play.

This is a BIOS issue. Check "USE DEFAULTS" in your setup and try that.
