Problem Converting .avi to SVCD/VCD

I use Mac OS 10.3.9 and FFmpegX 0.0.9v

I want to convert a movie file, which is an .avi file, to either SVCD or VCD. the file is about 350 MB and 42 minutes long. I have tried multiple times to convert the file, following the directions at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/divx_svcd.html but all attempts have been unsuccessful. I have read a few threads about people that have had a similar problem but they dont really answer my questions.

Step 1: Opening the source movie .... Done
Step 2: Click the "Quick presets" pulldown menu and choose "SVCD mpeg2enc" .... Done
Step 3: Click the "Encode" button .... Done

The file plays fine in Quicktime but EVERY time the file fails at the end. It says its 100%, but it failed.
My whole goal is to convert to SVCD or VCD and burn it to a CD so I can watch it on my DVD Player

Please Help

PS. I apologize if this has been done before. If so, please direct me to that thread. Thanks.

[Case]

1/ The folder name "FFMPEGX FILES" contains a space character, which one of the tools/modules may not like.
2/ Did you check if a good .mpg file was created? If so, maybe only the last part (disc image files) failed, and you can go from here without encoding all over again. Try playback in VLC, mplayer (play button in ffmpegX) and/or QuickTime Player. The latter needs the MPEG-2 playback component to play this file!
3/ If your .mpg file is good, goto Tools, goto Author, select SVCD, and try authoring seperately.
4/ If that works, you'll have Multi-Track CD-ROM XA image files (.img), which you can burn with Toast, as described on the website.

the operation finished this time after i took the space out.
I am using Toast 7.0.1 and it is not letting me drop both .img files into toast.
also those .img files will not mount (i dont know if they need to be)

[Case]

If you burn with Toast 7, select the "Multi-Track CD-ROM XA" option in the "Copy" tab, which will be available after turning on "Show legacy formats and settings" in Preferences. Click the "Select" button, then drop the two .img files (_01.img first, _02.img second) on the "CD-ROM XA Tracks" window and burn. Repeat for each disk.
