Ok guys.. this is my deal... for now (hopefully ill be able to afford a reciever soon?)

Iv got a Cable Box which i want to be able to get PPV from ect.
Iv got a TruTech DVD Recorder (which I love.. great product for the price)
a VCR (which I will want to be able to watch and convert old tapes to DVD.
and An old TV with only a Cable connection .. I do have a brand new RF Modulator though.
and a sterio with RCA jacks.

me being a newbie to hooking all this stuff up without a reciever am looking to be able to have it all together optimally.. or can it be done without a reciever?

    Thanks in advance!

    Matt

well this is how I would personally do it

1 have an rf wire going from cable box to vcr rf input
2 have vcr rf output going to dvd recorder rf input
3 have dvd recorder rf output going into television
(^this is assuming you have a good rf tuner built into dvd recorder)

4 and then have a yellow/red/white cable going from output of vcr into one of your dvd recorders inputs (front of recorder)
5 have an s-video or yellow video and red/white audio cables going from output of cable box to inputs on a different dvd recorder input (back of recorder)
(^assuming your recorder has two a/v inputs, these inputs will give better results than rf, everytime)

and then for your shelf stereo, hmm, tough decision. If your cable box has an extra red/white output on it, I'd say hook the cable box up to the stereo. (if you watch tv more than recording or playing dvds) if you like playing dvds with your Stereo Sound and the recorder is your main player, then hook up your recorder red/white outputs to the stereo. This particular problem with the audio would be solved if you had a home theater receiver audio system, then you wouldnt have to choose. Maybe if you gave us a little more info on your equipment, links to pictures, and what you want somebody else can help you too

*this is my opinion based on the little/no information you gave me about your equipment, and what you want out of it*

well there are so many possibilities I can't get into it, you basically know how to hook up wires right? Like inputs, outputs. Anyways a new tv with a/v inputs would be a nice start. A receiver would be good for switching a/v sources for watching on your television, if your television had a/v inputs. I dont think a receiver puts out an RF signal, you said you have an rf modulator but those usually reduce picture quality anyways. Also check into an a/v switcher, aka system selector. (you'll need your rf modulator)

anyways, you can hook up your playstation to the yellow/white/red inputs on your vcr, and turn on the vcr like your going to watch a movie, turn the vcr to either input mode or channel 0, and you can play playstation. Or buy a playstation rf cable and add it to the mix, directly on the tvs rf. And for the computer, hmm dont know, you can always unplug the playstation from the vcr to use it.

    NEways check into these things
    1. a/v switchers
    2. a new television with composite, s-video, component inputs
    3. a receiver
