I have a CCTV video camera <http://www.hicam.co.kr/> that I use for low light applications. I can see vertical lines on the left side of the image, and I'm sure they go all away across. In fact, if I take dark frame exposures and stack them, they can be seen. Any idea what they are?

When are you seeing the lines? When played back on the camera? When played on the PC? When burned to dvd?

Good question. I just realized the complexity of what happens. The process that produces the final image (jpg) is really a sum of up to 200 frames. The range is likely 100 to 200 frames. However, it's a simple summing of the 640x480 frames. I believe the average is taken before producing the final image to convert to jpb. Usually, I view the jpg image, but ...

However, I can see the same vertical lines when I take a raw dark frame, which is summed exactly over 200 frames and then averaged. The result is a raw image of 16-bit words. When displayed the vertical lines are apparent. The dark frames are produced by covering the lens and camera with thick dark felt, and are taken at night.

I can produce a single frame, and I do believe I see them even there. I'll check it out.
