  1. I have a divx file I want to use in a powerpoint presentation. I would like to convert it to something that is very common as far as codecs go. I don't know what codecs the machine I am going to be using it on has and want something fairly universal. Should I convert to a wmv? Or is there something which will almost always play on most systems?

    Thanks,
    Allen

A Chinese guy (I think he was a spammer) told me I had to buy TVC(total video converter http://www.effectmatrix.com) to test my computer. Thanks the guys who PM'd me here, I now know I can use plain old ms player instead. These guys will say their software can do anything, even cure cancer, so long as they can trick you into buying their usless crap

I bought it for other reasons too as it is supposed to encode nearly everything. Stupid me! The encode quality varied from average to unwatchable and it later started crashing my machine. I gave it to some friends and it crashed both their machines as well. The funny thing is that the crippled trial version does not crash.

I'm very angry. I can't even give it away.

MPEG-1 video should work on any windows machine.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    I agree.

Universal: MPEG1 (Cinepak would also work, but talk about your LowestCommonDenominator!)

Near Universal (for newer PC's): WMV9
    Near Universal (for Mac's, PC's w/QT): Sorenson3 QT MOV

  5. I would use SUPER (https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=SUPER_1) to convert it to flash (SWF)... almost everybody has that plug in, and then embedded to PowerPoint.

Quality is good and size is better!
