I'm a newbie, so I'm likely just not doing something correctly. However, according to everything I've read, once you've installed everything (including the 3 downloaded codecs, which I've done), you should be able to drag and drop files onto the window, choose your resulting type, and convert. When I do this, I get a very fast (less than a second) finish, and when I check on it, I get either this message:
"Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream #0.0"
OR
"Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.0 -> #0.0"
Both of these I believe are telling me I don't have the proper codecs to make the conversion. However, these are supposedly files that are supported, RM and AVI. Also, when I drag RM files onto the window, they either say "Unknown" or for some reason get labeled as "AVI"s.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to correct the issues?
Thanks!

And this is what happens with an AVI file:

The .rm format is only supported in input by the mencoder engine, eg the "DivX mencoder" preset (and after you install the reallib package as explained in the installation instructions).
In the second case, the video format is unrecognized. Are you able to play it in Quicktime Player?

IV50 is the fourcc for Indeo Video 5, if I remember correctly. Do any of the components in ffmpegx support Indeo?

Again, being a newbie, guess I'm stupid...but I've looked through the ff manual, as well as the associated materials with the mencoder and the website it was on. I'm not seeing anything on how to install and integrate this item into ffmpegx.
As for the AVI file I used as an example, what I frequently get with AVI files is audio in Quicktime, but no video. The error message says that it's missing components to actually play the file properly.

Are you referring to the link in Major's reply beneath your log excerpts? That's actually VideoHelp's auto-linking to the DOS/Windows version of the tool.
FFMPEGX already has mencoder integrated.
Do all of your AVI files report the same video codec? OSX, for example, is generally unable to play Indeo-encoded video because a Quicktime component for Indeo does not exist (licensing issues, as I recall), and other (non-Quicktime) programs don't have much support for Indeo, either. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
