  1. ok, so i have this movie i downloaded in .mkv format and i like to rip .mkv/.ogg to .avi and just burn them to dvd, but for some reason none of the tools i normally use work with it.

VirtualDubMod error - "Only handle [S_TEXT/] subs for the moment"
MKVExtractGUI error - "Error: '-i' can only be used with a file name. No other options are allowed if '-i' is used."

if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. (or if more info is needed)

What is the commandline that MKVExtractGUI generates?

  3. Tracks Commandline - mkvextract tracks D:\MYDOCU~1\DOWNLOA~1\ [filename].mkv

Attachments Commandline - mkvextract attachments D:MYDOCU~1\DOWNLO~1\[filename].mkv

    is this what you wanted?

Try "" for the input file.
    mkvextract tracks "D:\MYDOCU~1\DOWNLOA~1\ [filename].mkv"

Does that for me anyway though and it doesn't use DOS filenames.

Could also try renaming the file and putting it in d:\ since it sounds like some kind of command parsing error.

Also you might want to select some tracks. Should be 1:\MYDOCU~1\DOWNLO~1\Track1.264, etc.

    mkvextract tracks "K:\temp.mkv" 1:K:\Track1.avi

  5. ok, so i moved it straight to D:\ and renamed the file. now MKVEGUI recognizes it.... kinda~

it extracted the .ass file (subtitles) and the audio file (but its in some weird format (.ac3)), but it wont extract the video. i check the box next to it and hit extract, then it brings up the DOS-looking screen for a split-second then says "files extracted successfully", but it doesnt create a file. for the video it says "Track ID 1: video (V_MPEG4/ISO?AVC)" but it asked me to put in an extension, so i put in AVI, but now i want to change it to MP4 to see if it works, but it wont let me change it..

    any ideas?

It did extract... AVC, i.e. H.264, is a video codec.

  8. mm... there is no file. as in, it SAYS its been extracted, but there is no file to show for it.

Extension should be .264 and it is a raw stream, no container.

Make sure that you have a current version of mkvextract as older versions didn't support extraction of native AVC.

Why exactly are you extracting anyway? AVC in avi isn't really any more compatible than in mkv. It isn't like it will play on standalone DivX players.

mkv is just as burnable as avi or any other file. Data is data. If you mean converting to DVD video. I would still just convert the mkv.

  12. but to convert the mkv, i have to extract the audio/video into a burnable state right? theres no way to just burn an mkv straight to a dvd right?

As I said, data is data. Doesn't matter if it is an mkv, mp3, zip, rar, doc, xml, html or whatever file. You can still burn to DVD.

So one again. Do you mean converting to DVD video? That is a seperate process to burning, but if you use an all in one app. Then sure it is possible that it can't convert the mkv file. Doesn't mean that it isn't possible to convert an mkv directly to DVD or to at least to convert to DVD compliant files ready for authoring.
