  1. To make a long story short i had a virus on my computer before and new that norton didnt get rid of the whole thing but was enough for my computer to run so-so, now i try the new bitdefender 9 and what happens when i wake up the next morning!?!?!? it found some virus and deleted some of them but not all but i hear my hd just runing for no reason and find out that it must of made the virus mad because now i only got a little bit of space left. I put it in safe mode and ran norton after having to del some things cause i guess if the hd full then it wont run and it works the first time finding 1995 virus.... i removed them and when i boot back in regular mode the same thing happens. I think its one of them viruses that has to be hooked to the internet to spread cause if i go into safe mode with networking then it does the same thing as regular mode.... CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS??? AND NO BITDEFENDER DONT COME UP IN SAFE MODE AT ALL

i would get a dos boot disk and boot with that and complete wipe your drive clean , reformat and start over ...

might even have to get a dos virus checker on that disk to check the boot sector .. make sure that floppy has write protect on ..

NOTE -- you will lose all data and will have to reinstall everything

    1. first it would be usefull to know the full name of the virus.... that could help in many ways...
    2. the way a lot of virus and spyware and other malware is that they will disguise the main installer file and hide the installation command in the registry.!! .... where your anti software maybe can' find, detect or . or fix.....
so what you might want to do is to go into safe mode.... and restore a restore point that predates the infection THEORY.. by using a older registry that doesn't have the command to reinstall the virus!! ... hopefull that will give you a chance to clean up and do a thorough cleaning!!! and backup your important data files....
note: hope you haven't been running any sony's BMG label music cd's...!

You are pretty much toast, best to just get on with it and do a fresh install.

  6. Here's what I normally do when a customer brings me a virus-infected computer: I just remove the HD, put it in a USB (or FireWire) eternal case, connect it to my computer and scan it from there. Normally, I would find dozens, even hundreds of viruses, worms and trojans. Deleted them all.
Then I would put the HD back to its PC and try to restart the previously infected computer. Most of the time, it would run. If not, go to trendmicro.com and do another scan. 99.9% of the time, that solved the problem.
    Good luck.

are your av def files up to date? can you get online at all? if so do a online scan or two at one of these:

    BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
    check AutoClean under Scan Options.

    Panda ActiveScan
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fact...ACHEHINT=Guest

    Kaspersky virus scanner
    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    Housecall at TrendMicro
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
    check Auto Clean.

    F-Secure virus scanner
    http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml

    eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
    http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
    ------------------------------
also download and run a malware scanner like SBSD and ad aware and a app for trojans like ewido, a squared, or trojanhunter. if you cant get online you can burn these to cd then install on crapped up computer, or as suggested install hd as slave in another computer to scan the hd

  8. i tryed AVG antivirus and it seemed to removed the virus off the computer but it didnt give me my space back. My computer is runing smoothly and faster but i dont know where all my GB SPACE WENT!?!?!?!??!

  9. Might be that AVG quarintined the Virus files and therefor the still use the same space.

Look in AVG for a manager section for quarintined files and delete them. Also you did check the recycle bin?

  10. download a program called spaceman. It will tell you EXACTLY where all your hard drive space went. It is a 30 day trial but thats ok, you only need it for one. you can find it on download.com. Also you can run a freeware program called windows cleanup, then empty your recycle bin..

Also when you run spaceman, uncheck the box that says check for duplicates, highlight the drive letter (C and hit the F3 key. It will run much faster.
