I think BJ_M meant "womble" MPEG Video Wizard...

Others from "Womble" that might fit the bill:

    MPEG Video Wizard DVD
    MPEG-VCR

Other software for MPG cutting (see "Video Editors (MPG/DVD)" category in the "Tools" section):

    Mpg2Cut2
    VideoReDo

  6. I recently downloaded the Tmpgenc MPEG Editor trial and so far like it but the trial limits you to a 30 minute project. The jog shuttle (using the right mouse button on the timeline) really makes editing quite fast and the interface looks professional and is very intuitive. The audio tools are great. And the thumbnail view (which can be turned on/off) is the best I've seen in any tool. I also like the added tools for muxing/demuxing, and the ease at which clips could be joined.

In the end though I need to give the nod to VideoRedo for it's built-in repair tool, handy cut list history, ability to directly edit MS-DVR (important for me because I run Windows MCE), it's ad-detective (which surprisingly worked well), and it's chaptering support.

Both products seem to be very capable products, similar in features, and cost about the same.

And for a much lighter editor to handle DivX I agree with Bits that you might want to try VirtualDub.

  8. thanks for the quick responses, i am going to try out womble first and see how that works for me. The editing i wish to do isn't too intensive, just cutting a few scenes here and there to reduce the overal MPG's file size. Will report back.

ramian, for DV VirtualDub works fine. I use a variant, VD Mod. You just need to install a DV codec like the Panasonic DV codec to use it. You can also frameserve the edit directly to TMPGEnc encoder.
