Try SUPER. It seems to work well enough with WMVs.

    no, you encode with super.

if you want to encode with tmpgenc try first increase the directshow reader priority, www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems or use avisynth, https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=284288

If that fails, re-encode with AsfTools then use TmpgEnc.

You don't really need any most of the time. Drop the WMV into the bottom window. Then at the top #1, select mpg (mpeg ll) if that's what you want.

You can select the audio codec wanted in #3.

You can adjust the video and audio boxes in the middle if needed. It depends what you want to do with the final product.

The lower window will show you the encoding settings. They are easy to change.

Then just go to the bottom and hit 'Encode now'.

Generally if you have a setting wrong, the program will let you know. It's a simple converter. If the results aren't what you want, then TMPGEnc would probably work better.

EDIT: If your final product is to be DVD, then look to the upper left on this page for 'What is' DVD for the DVD format specs. and set your encoder accordingly

It should tell you when it's done. There's a indicatior that runs while encoding. It will make several passes. It puts the encoded file back in the source folder.
