$800? What's the difference? Way back in 2001, Sony is offering package for the PS2 (sports, entertainment, family packages) with 4 games, 2 controllers and 1 memory card for about $700. With PS3 it's a bit different, you will have a Blu-ray, SACD, Mp3, surround player (DTS and Dolby according from wiki) and the gaming console itself with backward compatibility you have 3 consoles in 1.
-
didnt sony surprise everyone last time by selling the ps2 for $299? wasnt everyone expecting a much higher launch price?
i think sony is issuing this fake propaganda.. stuff like "ps3 will be $900, $800, $700"..
but then it will come out for $400 or $500, and everyone will think that is a good price. -
When the PlayStation 2 was first released in Australia, it was the best part of a grand for the premium pack, and apparently it sold just fine. Early adopters being the bread and butter of all electronics-related industries, Sony could price the PlayStation 3 however they liked so long as they have the publisher support to provide an adequate selection of games. As has already been said, it is the games that sell the console.
That said, the games available for today's consoles are really a disappointment and a half. If I had a dollar for every game I have seen that has earned rave reviews from the media but plays like a hammer to the groin, I would be able to book a flight to England first class. In fact, the emphasis on graphics and audio infuriates me given that the games I have had the most fun with have all been on Commodore 64 or Amiga.
Quite honestly, out of all the video games I have played in the past five years, the only ones that come close to capturing the enjoyment of the classics would be the Resident Evil series. If I could wave a magic wand and zap EA Games out of existence, I would do so faster than it takes me to pull out a toenail."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -

Oddly enough I haven't read the Prince Caspian books in many years though I thought the movie was pretty good. Harry just isn't in the class of the above mentioned books for me, at least not yet... -
$900? From the land of the really clueless, Sony once again proves it's best days are behind it
-
There have been many chapters of the older Harry books that I just thought were plain filler
Unfortunately, the Lion adaptation they released recently utterly stained the books for me. I always felt that C.S. Lewis was a bit like Tolkien for infants, but the let-no-death-undone-by-magic-reset-button style really put my teeth on edge. As atrocious as the Dungeons & Dragons films are, at least their characters go through transitions because of the very real consequences of their actions.
I would pay to see a good adaptation of one of Terry Pratchett's occasional good novels. If Mort were adapted into film tomorrow, the next day, it would be a case of "Harry who?"."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -
It's Official: PS3 launching worldwide November 2006

Well this is good news for Microsoft. I actually like the Xbox.
But since I don't have a hdtv I'm in no hurry to spend $400 on a new console.
The only one that I might buy is the Nintendo Revolution because of the "OFFICIAL EMULATION" support - sure pc emulators are fun but they're far from perfect and I haven't found decent full screen support and still there are some grating sound errors that creep up.
If the downloads aren't much more than a $1 a game I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I have the NES, N64, and SNES but finding games for it is getting harder (except for ebay but some games aren't worth paying shipping for).
If they can sell the Revolution for around a $150 I might really be tempted to buy one. Especially if I can play Gamecube games on it - I don't have a gamecube but would like to play the newer Rogue Squadron games and the Mario and Zelda titles.Donatello - The Shredder? shelbyGT, and why not, exactly? Nintendo owns the rights to a LOT more games than MS itself personally does, that being said, they COULD (and won't) give them away for the cost of the bandwidth it takes the end users to download them........a dollar a game is actually reasonable though, seeing that it doesnt have to pay 3rd party companies to the rights to use the games in a download service....and if they do go the whole dollar a game route, they will end up with a LOT more people supporting them and buying their system...i think it would be smart of them to go that route......
-
Well sure, why not give them away for free?
IMHO, it boils down to what the market will support. Nintendo will price it at a point where it gives them the best profit margin while not scaring anyone away.
I'm not saying I don't want it to be a buck... but I'm not going to hold my breath for it. -
Well even $5 a game would be reasonable. Our more likely would be a subscription service. If you could do unlimited "permanent" downloads of games for $20 or $30 a month that would be perfect. Just think you could download your entire original collection in a weekend!!!

I wonder how they are going to work out the "non-nintendo" brand games like Capcom and the others. Would there be a two tiered pricing system??? The inhouse mario and zelda games being cheaper than the non-nintendo brand games?? I don't know. But hopefully it will be realistic and not crazy like $20 a game. If it was that high no one would ever rebuy the old games.

They're gonna charge for "downloading" old NES and SNES games?
The Revolution is gonna bomb anyway. -

The Xbox 360 is too expensive for me now and I thought about buying the regular first Xbox but most of the games on it I want to play are also available on the PC so what's the point? ... except I'll have to spend at least $150 - $200 on a new video card to play some of them LOL when the Xbox is now only $150
I have to admit playing RESIDENT EVIL 4 on my 51" 16x9 TV was a blast especially since the game supports 16x9 WS and PROGRESSIVE SCAN output.

And that's probably the coolest thing... playing all your games in HD. Now all I need is a bigger HDTV and I'm set (26" Samsung LCD currently). -
