    Hi everyone

I use DivXToDVD (free version) to convert my AVI files to VOB. I notice there is time difference in each conversion even though the size of each file is approximately the same.

One time, I converted 2 AVI files, each has a size of approximately 700MB. The conversion took 4 hours. Another time, I converted 2 AVI files of approximately the same size (700MB each). The conversion took only 2 hours. These were done on the same computer (my brand new home-built one 8) ).

Would someone please tell me why there is such difference?

    Thanks

  2. i'd have to imagine htat it's the LENGTH of the file, and the number of frames that need to be compressed that mainly determine the total encoding time.......also, it may have something to do with the TYPE of avi that your speaking of (avi can refer to HUNDREDS of differant types of video actually, im gonna assume that what you have is likely divx or xvid......) i think some types of video take longer for encoders to handle properly......i know that conversion to xvid for example generally goes a bit faster than divx (at least on my computer) i'd have to assume that it's probably the opposite way too, at least to an extent.....

    Hi,

The actual time (length) of each file is also approximately the same, around 90 minutes.

I think your suggestion about the different types of AVI is correct. When I convert my next batch of AVI files, I will take note of the type of each of them.
