    Hi Guys,

I've been happily converting divx .avi files to Video_TS folders
for burning to DVD for a while now on my Powerbook.
The quality is fantastic I have to say. Much better than Toast 7 can
manage even on the highest settings and quicker too.

So, I just got a new iMac Core Duo.

I installed the divx for Mac install but divx .avi files would not play in
quicktime. A quick search around and I find that there is a beta of
the 'divx for mac for intel' which I install and we're in business.

    http://labs.divx.com/node/76

So now quicktime plays divx .avi files perfectly.

I install the latest version of ffmpegx and plug in the settings I usually
use to convert divx .avi to Video_TS and encode.

The result is that the video encodes fine but there is no audio!

On checking the .ac3 file it's obviously incorrect because it's only 56k in size instead of several megs as it should be.

Then begins many many hours of trying to figure out how to get the
audio sorted. (I even ended up to my disgust looking for a Windows utility and found divx2dvd which I have to say does the job perfectly, but I don't want to use windows!!)

I don't know if the problem is with the beta version of divx for Macintel,
or whether it's with ffmpegx on Macintel.

I tried selecting the decode with QuickTime option to see if that would work but no.

Anyone got any ideas to save me from M$ Windoze?

    Cheers,
    Kudos

Well I'd just like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response !!

OK, I used Quicktime to convert the divx .avi into a .dv stream. I then
used ffmpegx to convert the .dv into a Video_TS and the video and audio was fine.

So why does ffmpegx fail to directly transcode a divx .avi file into a Video_TS folder on a MacIntel platform???

    any one got any ideas....

i've had some problems with it too, with audio and the tools also, but i think some of the stuff doesn't work because ffmpegx isn't a universal binary yet.

  4. Perhaps try to disable "Normalize audio", or send me a short clip for test (major4@mac.com, use yousendit.com to send files).
