Are you playing it with a standalone DVD player? What model? You would have to look in the instructions for your player. The player and LCD should play in the same format as the DVD is made for. The LCD can't convert widescreen to full screen. The format is set by the DVD. Does the picture look normal? Not stretched or shrunk down?

Only if the DVD is 16:9 (1.77:1 aspect).
    Many movies are 2.35:1 aspect.

Are you saying it fills the screen horizontally?
Many HDTV or DVD players have a zoom function that fits vertically and chops off the sides.

Did you reconfigure your DVD player to let it know you are using a 16:9 television?

  7. Somewhere in the DVD player setup menu is a place to set it to output for 16:9 (yours) or 4:3 TV sets, or for widescreen (yours) or fullscreen TV sets. If you haven't changed it already, that's probably the reason, as most are set by default to output for 4:3 TV sets. You might even try reading the manual that comes with the player.

And as others before have mentioned, many movies are wider than 16:9 (2.35:1 movies, for example) and are meant to have some black bars, even on 16:9 TV sets.

Even on a correctly working 16x9 TV, this is what is happening.
