    Will something like: wwwDOTsomesiteDOTcom/dvdshrinkDOTzip qualify as a direct link? Technically, it's not even a link.

    Yes it is a "Direct Link" to the file.
    You click on it and a link like that won't take you to a site but start downloading the file.

    He stated it pretty clearly a few post's above your Q.
