Sorry. Due to legalities, we cannot post or host direct links to DVDshrink.

Well i think he means we cant post a direct DL link like i did, i think it's okay to link to afterdawns DL page as they are hosting the actual DL and link.

    Ruling here please :P

    P.S.
That's kind of strange that shrink can't be listed here anymore but DVD Decrypter can

Well that would explain it eh
But i would think decrypter would be more of a big deal than shrink seeing as shrink was not shut down like decrypter/LUK was..

But can we link to the afterdawn page for shrink as bidefordboy did ?
it was not the direct DL link like i had, just for furture referance.

  11. We ask you not to hotlink direct to DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter or ANY dvd ripper tools.

You may link to ripper tools sites, but not the file directly.

    Example:

    http://riptoolwebsite/dvdshnk.zip

    http://riptoolwebsite.com
    Quote Quote
  12. Download dvdshrink, search took .27 second

Notice that 'dvdshrink' is printed in a spiffy orange so you can click on that & get more info?

This is on the verge of becoming ridiculous. A little bit more pressure from the powers that be, and the next thing you know it won't be permissible to even inform us when a new version of Fab Decrypter has been released, or what the changelog says. Guides ? -- those will have to go also. (Forget AD. They caved on all this stuff first, but they won't be the last.)

The thing is, no matter how many doors they manage to slam shut, you can still always manage to find just about anything with a good search engine.

I guess this is alright then?

    http://www.mrbass.org/

This is disturbing. People can disseminate all sorts of information about questionable activities, up to and including how-to-do-it, and they are deemed protected by free speech. That's what I always thought anyway, did somebody change that while I wasn't looking?

So far as I know, you can still write a book about home-made bombs, how to convert a legal firearm to full-auto, etc, etc. And distribute it. Where's the hmmm, what's the term, "legitimate purpose there"? Do you need a justification? Do you simply call it "scholarly research"?

So a mere link to a ripper is verboten?

[EDIT] Okay, I just read the link in the post above. So Macrovision made ya do it? Blackmail, as in "We can drag you into court and make it expensive for you, even if you win".

    Okay
fritzi93 made me think of something to clarify even more....
It is stated "not the file directly" which i understand, so even linking to the DL page itself is okay ?
    Like this ?
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
or just the site in general is allowed ?

I want to make darn sure so as not to bring your wrath upon us

If this is wrong delete my link as i'm sure you will

    EDIT:
Okay, i guess linking directly to the DL page the way i did is okay as that is how they are linked in the "Tool's" section

Wow ... all this is news to me. So when I type AnyDVD, DVDShrink or DVDDecrypter it still links to the appropriate pages in the tool section. If I go to these pages for these tools and click on info it takes me to their respective homepages where I then can download the tool.

Are were still allowed to talking about ripping a DVD to harddrive using any of these tools?

  21. As a VH mod it would be inappropriate to comment on how silly this all is, so I won't. Mainly the lists have been affected, if anything. For the few that don't know: A reason why the DVD Decrypter website & program were more effected, was that it specialized in hosting a ripper and that in 2003, Europe had enacted copyright legislation aiming to remove fair use. The U.K. author had little choice.

@ All. You can discuss copyright law but please don't post political comments.

@ Noahtuck. Sorry but I had to lock this temporarily so we could confer & confirm. As usual, members were onto the subject before we had a chance to prepare. Redwudz did exactly the right thing in the circumstances.

Yeah, but then again, P2P itself is extremely evil and Satan's work and whatnot, you know?
Dang, we'll all burn in hell for using P2P and ripping DVDs.
Those of us who never watched porn may still have a limited chance...

Cool. When backing up a DVD and removing unwanted clips and extras using VOBblanker, I always get a big kick out of blanking the MV clip (in addition to the pesky FBI warning and Studio intro clips). For some reason blanking the MV clip, which is usually placed at the end of the movie after the credits, gives me such a sense of joy and vendication.

    Little bit of info
Well, it appears the technical staff of Macrovision is slowly being replaced by a herd of lawyers. They won't become successful until all human thought is filtered and censored to ensure no one learns about their latest tricks or implants to suit their desires to get a piece of the action on every dvd sold - which comes out of all customer's pockets. It is unfortunate that Macrovision doesn't have a coporate vision of itself that includes something beneficial to society. Hopefully the entertainment industry will realize eventually that the money they donate to Macrovision is a waste and would be better spent in making products more attractive to their customers, rather than more annoying.

The biggest problem is that we can no longer trust any of these optical media products from the entertainment industry, as they have no reservations installing harmful virus software on our computers. Folks are almost better off using downloaded versions of whatever.

The more this goes on - and the more products that become polluted with Macrovision type intentional flaws or virus software or become limited in flexibility of use - the less I buy.

And here is another thought . . why does Macrovision care about DVDShrink anyway? When they went after DVDDeCryptor, one could understand since Lightening UK had blown Ripguard wide open almost immediately. But, as far as I can tell from posts, etc. DVDShrink cannot deal with Macrovision Ripguard polluted dvd's anyway and is not being updated at all by anyone? If that is the case, why do they even care about it? What gives Macrovision the right to charge after a software program that has nothing to do with their product offerings?

NO. As Nero Recode does not include a ripper. It cannot be used on copy protected dvds. DVD Shrink does however on the other hand.

Will something like: wwwDOTsomesiteDOTcom/dvdshrinkDOTzip qualify as a direct link? Technically, it's not even a link.

    Just wondering...
