I'm trying to convert an .AVI with a size of 950 mb to around 700 mb or lower. I'm doing this with a program called 'movie converter' by 'movietoolbox'. I can select some video & sound codecs but I dont know which one I should choose. I would like to use one which will make the file size as low as possible but the quality of the video has to be still very good.

    Video codecs I can choose:

    Audio codecs I can choose:

Can someone help me with this, what codecs would be the best? Or do you recommend me to use an other program, or an other method to do this?.

    Cheers, and thanks a lot.

  2. For that kind of file size the x264 Video Codec is likely to give the best result or you could try Koepi's XviD Codec.

I personally would use VirtualDub Mod and the Xvid codec. Adjust the codec settings to get the size you want. You can use 2 pass encoding to improve the quality at the lower bitrate. Use MP3 audio.

VDM can do many other things, like filter, resize, edit, trim, frameserve, and there are many guides to show you how to use it. And it's free.

    One word: Lagarith.

Lossless compression, small file sizes, fast encoding.

    Try it. It's free.

  6. erm.......no......he is trying to take a 950mb file and drop it to 700ish...unless it's a 30 second uncompressed clip, i somehow doubt that lagoroth will do it justice.....
