  2. I don't remember getting an installation manual when I got my ADVC-50, but hopefully this helps:

There are two ways to install an ADVC-50 (I see it has been removed from the Canopus site )

Firstly, you need to have a firewire card on your PC (or firewire socket on your PC's motherboard).

The first way, it can sit in a CD/DVD drive bay (if it came with the drive bay adapter, see picture below) and attach a white power connector to the rear of the ADVC-50.
Then, attach a firewire cable from the ADVC50's front firewire socket (4pin) or the rear (6pin) to the firewire card socket. I have mine set up like this and the firewire 4pin end is attached to the front, going to the firewire card, thus:

Alternatively, the second way or if you don't have the drive bay adapter, it can sit in a PCI slot (without a power connector as it draws power from the PCI slot) with a firewire cable connected to the firewire socket as described above.

There is no software to install as it will just be considered an external capture device.

After that, attach the cables from your playback device using either composite video or s-video cables and the audio cable.

I hope that this is helpful.

Even my ADVC-100 only came with a 4 page or so manual. But here's a link to some info about the ADVC-50:

    http://dv411.com/advc50.html

Or go to Canopus, register your ADVC-50 and download a manual. They're not particular, even with the wrong serial number and a purchase date from 2004 and from a dealer like newegg.com, as the warranty would have been expired anyhow The .pdf manual is about 6 pages.
