i got an ext.HD with 4 partitions,i must have unplugged it without ejecting or something like this cos now only 3 of the partitions mount,
i go to disk utility and the missing partition shows up,but when i try to repair i get this:

    Verify and Repair disk “MPEG2'S”
    ** /dev/disk1s5
    ** Phase 1 - Read FAT
    ** Phase 2 - Check Cluster Chains
    ** Phase 3 - Checking Directories
Unable to read directory (Input/output error)
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

    1 non HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

can it be saved?and if so what do i need?

Looks like that 4th partition was initialized as FAT (possibly FAT32). That's Windows crap and you may be hosed. One possible solution is to plug the FW drive into a PC and see if it shows up there. If so, copy your stuff off, "remove" the drive (using the appropriate taskbar icon), power it off, plug it into your Mac, power it back on, and initialize the partition as HFS (MacOS Extended, "journaled" is not necessary). While you're at it, check the other partitions to see if they are also FAT. If so, copy everything else off and re-initialize for the Mac.

Nothing I know of (for the Mac) will help you repair a FAT partition.

    Sorry; "hosed" means "corrupted irreparably".
