I want to back up a dvd after recoding its at 4800mb. Not relizing i tried to click burn and it says that it wont fit on a a single layer and to remove some of the extras and sound. The sound and extras consist of only 11mb. I used nero recode and then tried dvd shrink. Any ideas on this.

I am surprised that DVD Shrink did not work, as I have used it several times for stuff like this. I don't recode or reauthor just open as files then do the backup like I would for disk.

You mention the sound and extras being only 11Mb, this seems very low, as most AC3 sound tracks exceed 300 Mb for a normal movie..DTS is even more if its included. I think your app is asking for the removal of sound tracks that are not needed...otherwise you will need to re encode the main movie video section with a lower average bit rate to make if fit.

You are correct, if you only have one sound track showing then you can not
delete it. You must re encode you main movie to reduce the size of the video section. DVD shrink should give you options to reduce to the size required,
Nero Recode should too for that matter. I can not be 100% sure as its been along time since using those apps.

    First,
Are you ripping it to your hard drive first or just opening the disc in shrink ?

    Second,
What is the title of the dvd ?

Just leave AC3 5.1 and dump all the rest. Your player will convert it to stereo if you don't have a 5.1 decoder.

I have seen this error when the disc was not decrypted, just copied. Shrink then cannot open the video to actually shrink it. I would rip it again, perhaps with DVD Fab Decrypter, and see how you go.
