I don't know of a direct way. But if you create the vobs and then start a new project and select them as the source there is an option to save to HDD which will create a mpg.

The problem is that it's an authoring program, although you can do basic editing. You're better off with a dedicated editting program. I use MVW.

Once the VOB files are created you can use the freeware program DGIndex which will take the VOB files and output a video file and an audio file.

So you will have 2 files. The video file (with an M2V extention) and the audio file (which will have AC3, WAV or MPA as the extention according to what format it is ... MPA is aka MP2 audio).

You can then take the M2V video file and multiplex it with the AC3 or MPA file to create an MPG/MPEG file. WAV audio (also called PCM or LPCM) cannot be used to make an MPG/MPEG file.

There are various programs with multiplexing capabilites. The one that I use is not freeware (I use MPEG-VCR for this) but I'm sure there are freeware solutions.

  5. Chrissy Boy's Vob2mpg is a simple, free programme for converting authored Vobs to mpeg. I use this, coupled with VideoReDo to edit.

  6. That is what TMPGEnc "Media Editor" does. You can input mpegs, do frame accurate edits, and output as mpeg as one choice. Here is a screen that shows your options,
