Is there any freeware DVD authoring software available that doesn't re-encode avi/mpg files when it makes a dvd that plays on stand alone players? Been using nero for a while and though I like its simplicity, it can sometimes degrade the image quality. Thanks.

DVDAuthorgui may work for you. But it is for MPEG-2 files that are DVD compliant. If they are AVI, you have to encode them to MPEG-2 first.

avi is not dvd compliant so it must be reencoded.
