Please keep in mind I'm a complete newbie at this. I have a new notebook (Asus A7v) and I'd like to capture old VHS tapes I have and burn DVDs. I've been converting and burning DVDs for a while, so that shouldn't be a problem once I get an avi or mpg file. I have no idea how to capture though. What kind of cables would I need to hook it up? I have a SCART and one of those red/yellow/white outputs on the VCR. Would I need something that goes from there to a USB? Or to the TV in?
I have a TV tuner and I can record from TV so I'm assuming that means I have some sort of capture card? What software would you recommend? For TV recording I can use the Asus Mobile Theatre, could I use that one?

Thanks to anyone who could help me out!

Not all TV tuner cards allow for external video input. If yours has connections for video in, then all you have to do is connect your vcr output to the appropriate input of your tv tuner.

For portability, you might want to look at ADS new product, the ADS DVD Xtreme. See this link. http://www.adstech.com/media/mediafiles/02-14ADS%20Shipping%20DVD%20Xpress%20DX2.doc

Thanks for your reply. I'm probably being really dense here, but how would that video in look?

That looks like something I could work with. I'll have to take a closer look at, but thanks a lot!
