I would recommend using firewire to capture, rather than usb. USB2.0 can work fine when capturing, but quite a few people have had problems when using USB. I don't know much about your AVERMedia software, but I haven't seen in mentioned much on these forums. Most all-in-one solutions don't work very well. I recommend that you look at some of the guides and tutorials here, and check out the Capture, Editing, and Authoring forums for good advice on free and/or inexpensive softwares which do a very good job.

Suggest searching the capture card forum, and use mpeg4 in your search criteria.

Just an observation on USB-USB2 capture devices. There is no standard control protocol for USB capture devices. Each company develops its own drivers and software.

The device will be unsupported by all other software applications (e.g. editors, DVD authoring programs) unless specific drivers are developed for that specific USB device. Not many mainstream programs invest in non-standard driver development.

So, if you buy for example an AverMedia USB capture product, you are tied to AverMedia capture software.

The resulting MPeg2 or MPeg4 file can be imported into other programs.
