lg 5083 not playing dvds

hi my lg5083 will not play dvds . i can play cds in it .
i have tried the factory reset and have had no joy so any advice would be great

sounds like the laser is dead. There are 2 lasers, one for dvd and one for cd, which explains why your cd's are still working.

Time for a new player.

Have you tried one of those laser cd/dvd cleaners? Try one and see if that helps any.

In most cases there is a solitary laser that adjusts it's wavelength depending on what type of disc is inserted.

Edit: Interesting the things you learn while searching. I've never seen a dual laser setup before but apparently they do exist and this LG has it. Must be something really old because the players I see in for repair have a solitary laser unit.
