I have a Sandisk Cruzer mini 256MB memory stick, when i go to the option to safely remove it my internet connection is cut off at the same time.

    Any thoughts?

Using usb modem? Probably down to low power from your usb ports
    on your computer.
Usb was never designed to carry network transmissions hence intermittent disconnections and other problems.

Better off using an ethernet nic (network card) if you have one for your internet connection or if not get yourself a powered usb hub and connect everything to that.

Yes, a usb modem from BT. I can't find a way to fix the problem. I need my modem.

    Have you tried 2 things:

    1. Go to the various site's - Motherboard and Modem - and see if there is a firmware (or patch) upgrade/update.

    2. Do a google search to see if anyone has posted a solution elsewhere.

The hub - esp a powered hub - sounds like a good thing to try.
