    Hi, I am setting up avi files to make into a dvd on ulead dvd workshop, i usually use MpegVideoWizard to convert them to mpeg-2, and then set the files up in ulead dvd workshop and they author sooooooooooooooo fast cause the program dosent have to convert the file i loved it, then i tried avi2dvd(givesgreat quality) and converted them to vob files then i just rename the vob file extension to MPG, and set them up in ulead as usual and the program does the whole coverting thing takes forever! why???? i read somewhere that vob files can be renamed to mpg and still read fine cause they are basically the same thing...............so why is the program coverting the files ????

    also what is a quick way to convert avi to mpg 2 fast??

    VOB files are not just MPEG files. A VOB file contains a MPEG video file, but it can also contain several channels of audio (Different languages) and subtitles, and probably chapter and other info. That may be why your program takes a while to author them. VOBS and MPEGs aren't interchangeable. It might work a few times, but renaming can mess things up also.

    Faster AVI to MPEG-2 encoding takes a fast CPU and a fast encoder. CCE and Mainconcept are a couple of the faster ones. TMPGEnc is one of the slower ones. Encoding times also depend on the settings you use, more encoder passes or filtering or some of the other encoder settings can make it take longer. But CPU speed is the primary factor.
