Basic info on creating a VCD
http://www.labdv.com/en/manuals/vcd_basic.php
I think that Nero will convert the AVI to Mpeg1
before it will start the burn process. I had one
video that was Mpeg2 and it gave me a popup that asked if I
would like for it to convert it to Mpeg1 and burn to CD.
If the post above does not help go to the link below and
check the documents, there should be something there to help you.

um. it says you can get a decoder, or encoder? to covert from avi to mpg. where can i get one that is a freeware?
it doesnt try and covert it. it just says its burning it, and after 2 hours, it doesnt burn anything! and i cant keep trying and waiting 2 hours in between? it will take me a month to burn one movie..... -
A lot of the software you need is here.
http://www.labdv.com/en/software/softlist.php
Also you may want to practice with a small video
file. The larger the file the longer it will take
for Nero to prepare it to burn. I know what you are saying
about the long wait and then an error message. It is best
to play around with a small AVI file.

well, i found a place that told me to download virtualdub. i did, it said to just open an avi, and then resave as a mpg. well, there is no option for saving it as a mog... this is getting me soo frustrated i cannot even tell you. all this movie stuff is causing me problems, it takes for ever to do one thing, and no one wants to help. i get redirected over and again to the same tutorials that caused the dead end in the first place. is there a forum that is active enough to get good help? anyone?

get the newest tmpgenc -
http://www.tmpgenc.com/e_enq.html
unzip it with winrar (im sure since you have an avi you probably have winrar ) but heres the url to the site
http://www.winrar.com
install tmpgenc
run it
at the bottom right hit load. pick the file 'VideoCD (NTSC).mcf' (without the apostrophies)
then next to video source hit the browse button. select your avi
a filename in the output spot will be set to the same directory as the avi with the same name only with a .mpg extension. hit [Encode]
then (many hours later) when tmpgenc is done.. load the .mpg into nero and should examine it and then burn it
http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm
tells you basically what i said but with nice pictures
btw if you have file extensions off make sure you drag the .mpg file into nero not the avi

You can't save an .avi as an .mpg in VirtualDub. It's just not that simple. I wish it were. You need several programs in order to create a VCD from an .avi file. On this website on the left side of the main page, go to convert, and follow the dumbies' guide to converting VCD using TMPGEnc. It takes patience and many hours of time to make a VCD (especially the first few times you do it
). Give it a try, otherwise you'll still be watching that .avi on your computer.

It is not that nobody wants to help. Is that your questions are so basic that it shows you MUST do some reading and some trial-and-error first. Don´t be mad
