Are these players going to require the owner to have an internet connection to the player? If so imo both formats are DOA.

that is what has been reported - though conflicting reports on this ..
bottom line is the the anti copy specs have not been nailed down ...
if they DO -- the sales will be almost nil ...
prob. be like sat. PPV phone connection .... which of course means in the future --- PPV on HD disk also"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I'm thinking it was the phone line requirement as much as the PPV model that doomed the Old Divx form Circuit City.
What about the people that don't have internet or do not want to run ethernet to their Vidoe player and got rid of their landline in favor of cellular? I'm still thinking there is a big gotcha waiting for the no landline folks some day, And I could be totally wrong too. Bearing in mind I don't need more than basic phone service, got rid of long distance and still have most of the time on a calling card that came as a gift, Cellular is a non-starter for me. When it gets down to the cost of basic phone service per month with a no commitment $10 phones available I will thak another look and rethink my position. OTOH I have to wonder do I want to be reachable all the time, everywhere I go?

Can't say I'm surprised.
I'll be one of the many with such an ATI card looking for compensation for false advertising.

UPDATE:
ATI will be releasing a true HDCP compliant videocard:

The bad news is it probably will only come in PCIe,I for one will not be upgrading my hardware and OS to watch HD. -
Interesting update on the internect connection required for HD discs.
http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/03/22/high-def_discs_will_never_require_wired_internet/
looks like will require connection for making a backup copy. -
Just say no to HD or BD DVD players.

And they want us to spend $1,000 for one of these players?
