Hi guys i was just talking to my mate a couple of days ago when he told about the new dvd player that lg have taken out that converts your standard dvd video and converts it to be able to be viewed at hd 1080i . I found out that quite perculiar since hd is more superior in quality and usally with encoding the video tends to become worse not better. but then i thought well companies also do rematstering in which they start with an ok source and then considerably improve it so i thought it could be possible .. anyway. I was wondering if this is possible with hardware i was wondering if theres any software out that can convert standard dvd video to high definition.

    "Standard DVD video" is 720x480/576

Upconversion of resolution from 720x480/576 to 1920x1080, in theory, will not improve the video quality. It may help in adapting the 720x480/576 DVD video input to the display technology being used.

Imagine you are a young hotshot engineer on a team designing the latest HD Ready TV. You are given the assignment to design a hardware video upscaler to optimize 720x480/576 DVD playback (interlace or progressive) from either analog component or HDMI sources for display on that particular TV.

Every HDTV project has such an engineer (or team) and the results of their work is built into your HD Ready TV.
