  1. I have several anime MKV files on my PC. When I open them in windows media player i get the "Windows Media player has encountered a probelem and needs to close" window. Now is there a solution to this, oh and by the way, I do have the codecs to play MKV because I have other MKVs I have played before. This batch just seems to be different.

    try the latest haali media splitter.

    or try play with vlc.

    mkv is a container. It can contain many different streams which use many different decoders.

    so be sure to have all codecs... ffdshow can decode most crap.

    or use vlc!!!! all codecs built in...

    Well VLC wouldn't be able to play an mkv file containing real video and wavpack audio I don't think.

    You just need to make sure that you have decoders for all streams in whatever mkv you are trying to play.
