I use DivXtoDVD 0.5.2.99 (the one that is supplied here on Videohelp) to convert avi's to dvd format. Than i used CopytoDVD to burn the files onto a DVD. It plays back perfectly on my computer, but when i go to play it on a DVD player the picture jumps. Also, when a friend plays it on his computer it doesnt read the disk. We than tried it on a PS2 and didnt read there either. Why would the picture jump when played on a DVD player? What can i do about this?

I was told that perhaps it was the media, but im using Memorex DVD-R (16x), which i noticed to be very reliable.

You need to keep in mind that not all players support both types of media (+/-) and not all media is compatible with all players. For instance, just because a player supports -R media, doesn't mean all brands of -R media will work.

The fact that the disc works fine in the computer would seem to indicate the disc is fine. To verify the disc, try a program such as DVDinfopro to verify the data on the disc.

You can try looking up your standalone in the DVD Players section and see which media others have had success/problems with in your player.

You may want to experiment with different brands of media and/or the burning software that you are using.

Another problem could actually be the burner itself. Burners also often have issues with various types/brands of media.

my media is fine... i think it's just the format of the file. I burned about 3 diff. vids ...some were mpeg and others were avi's, i believe. I think it's just the diff. formats... could that be it?

No. DivxtoDVD will convert them all to DVD compliant video and create a compliant structure. If it plays back fine on your PC using a good software player like PowerDVD or WinDVD, but doesn't play properly or at all when burned to a disc, then the problem is either your burner, your disc, or your playback device(s).

What media do you use ?

My bad - typing while in a (small) room full of people. Doesn't change my post though - it still sounds like media or burn process at fault.
