I have an idea, I think we should have a thread dedicated to benchmarking ffmpegX on many different Macs. What I'm unsure of is what kind of test file should we use, and what engine should we use as the benchmarking test?
ffmpeg? mencoder? x264?
Also when benchmarking should lots of high quality options be used or should it be more baseline?
major could you cue in on this, and when I hear your feedback on the most suitable type of benchmark I'll create and host the test files, and create a new thread so people can post their results.

I started some time ago to make some benchmarks at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/benchmarks.html
Indeed it would be nice to find some reference clips in various formats (copyright free) and to use them to benchmark.
