  2. S-video is picture only.
I would suggest audio cables, from the VCR into the soundcard as well.

Of course this all depends on what you are connecting to on your PC for the picture. How is your VCR to PC connected?

The questions meant what kind of capture card or capture device are you using?

The connector you are using now is called an RF connector and it carries video and audio but the quality is not very good. Your VCR should have a composite video output and maybe even a S-video output along with audio outputs. The composite video output is the "yellow" RCA plug and the audio is white/red for stereo or usually just white if it is a mono only VCR. The S-video connector is the one with the "pins".

You need to connect rca connectors from your audio out L/R on your VCR, to your Audio in on your sound card. Then you need to change the setting in options or preferences, to tell your capture software which device to use for capturing sound, and set the appropriate input level on our sound card.

Using the co-ax cable you're using the tuner on your aiw. Should have audio output if set up correctly. Wouldn't worry about other connection methods yet if tuner won't even work. Try going back through the initialization wizard, & checking in device manager, making sure everything's as it should be. SHould have 6 ati devices under sound. Make sure sound card is working and nothing's muted.

If you've got a retail model, Directions say to use the separate lineout cable from the breakout cable at back of your card, & plug it into line in for regular audio. If you've got a non-retail version, like the white boxed aiw 9600 xt's all over, they don't seem to have the same connector setup, but haven't seen a decent picture.

I did find in their docs earlier today that with the aiw 9600 upwards you didn't need to use the separate line-out cable, that if set up with the newer MMC versions (be careful of 9.13), audio was passed via the buss using wdm. I haven't tried this yet. Generally if you use separate audio cables you need them to go through the aiw for capture -- bypassing the purple plug won't cut it.
