I was looking to buy a stand alone primarily for taping tv shows and for transferring old vhs home mvies to dvd.
Is there a major difference in these two besides the vcr?
Anyone have any problems with either that i should know about?
i heard there is no way ro add chapter stops as well except of ram discs, is this a huge problem?.
Thanks for your time

I have a Panasonic ES10 and a borrowed ES30 for doing a big family project. Here are the differences I noticed using a combo and single.
The combo is easily the most convenient to use when transferring good quality tape to dvd . The combos are a one touch solution, hit dub and it will fast forward to locate the end of the tape and determine the recording settings for you.
Combos are not as convenient for problems tapes if you need to use external hardware such as a TBC, color corrector, or detailer and want to use the internal VCR. The external hardware is easier to use with an external VCR with either a single or combo.
That said the other advantage of the combo is price. The best price I found on the Internet for a JVC DR-M100S is about $193 but the combo JVC DR-MV5S is available at BestBuy stores for $229. That is a $36 difference. I would guess that if you found the M100S in a store the difference would not even be that much.
